Kipchoge is nominated for the best male athletics of 2019
Marathon recordist Eliud Kipchoge is one of five nominations for the prestigious individual award of the world athletics village.
Kipchoge was the most prominent in the nomination list, including Sam Kendricks, Noah Lyles (USA), Joshua Cheptegei (Uganda) and Karsten Warholm (Norway). The World Athletics Council vote for 50% of the voting results, the World Athletics Family polls for 25% and the remaining 25% of the votes from fans around the world. The poll closed on November 5, but until November 23, the best athletics tournament of the year was announced at a ceremony in Monaco.
In October, Kipchoge became the first person to run a marathon in less than two hours in the world, at the 1:59 Challenge Ineos in Vienna, Austria. Kipchoge’s 1 hour 59 minutes 40.2 seconds achievement is not recognized as a world record, but he is still considered to be breaking the marathon limit of mankind.
Earlier, research at Monash University, Australia showed that humans are only 10% capable of running sub2 by 2032.
In the same year, Kipchoge won the London Marathon with a time of 2 hours 2 minutes 37 seconds. London was also the place where he set a world record last year, with a time of 2 hours 1 minute 39 seconds.
Kipchoge’s competitors in the race for the best athletes all achieved impressive results in 2019. Sam Kendricks pole dancing player won the world championship with a record of 5m97 and set a contemporary record of 6m06 on 27 / 7. Kendricks also won 12 tournaments this year.
Noah Lyles won at 200 meters and relayed 100 meters at the World Championship, becoming the fourth fastest 200 meter runner in history with a time of 19.50 seconds. Cheptegei won the Diamond League at a distance of 5000 meters and set a contemporary record at 10,000 meters (26 minutes 48 seconds 36). Warholm is unbeaten in 2019 at a distance of 400 meters and is the second fastest runner in history at this distance with a time of 46 seconds 92.
